Chandhok evaluating future racing plans

The former F1 driver is weighing up his options in a variety of series after a busy start to the year which saw him dovetail Formula E, Le Mans, media commitments and his position on the FIA Driver’s Commission.

“I’m in a little bit of a holding position at the moment,” Chandhok told Motorsport.com.

“The Formula E season started out quite well but for a variety of reasons the season just didn’t happen the way we would have liked.

"We never translated our pace that we had from free practice sessions to qualifying. It was disappointing for everyone involved really.

"Now, as a driver, I have to review and look at what other options might be out there, particularly with manufacturers in sportscars,” he added.

“At Mahindra Racing I was involved in getting the team up and running from the ground up really.

"It was good to see the cycle of the first season completed as an Indian driver with an Indian team, but if I am honest it wasn’t a great season for us and I need to new decide what’s best for my future driving career,” the Indian added.

Chandhok has long been an advocate of Formula E and believes that the Championship exceeded many expectations in its first season.

“It gathered momentum very quickly and by the end of it, it had won many people round,” said the British-domiciled Indian.

“I think the reputation of the Championship is growing and attracting a very positive following.

"Alejandro [Agag] and his team did a really excellent job and it was a pleasure to be part of it in the first season.”

Mahindra to run with Campos

Motorsport.com understands that Chandhok, the first and only Indian to race at Le Mans, is highly unlikely to continue with Mahindra into season two of Formula E and is investigating several new programs.

Motorsport.com broke the news last month that Mahindra had ceased its partnership with Carlin Racing and was likely to conclude a deal with Campos Racing.

The Mahindra entity will still be managed by Mahindra representative Dilbagh Gill.

A Campos run Mahindra car has tested at Valencia this month with Antonio Garcia and Oliver Turvey conducting the tests.

Motorsport.com understands that Turvey is high on the list to race for either NEXTEV TCR or Mahindra in season two of the FIA Formula E Championship.

Mahindra will run an updated version of the McLaren/Hewland powertrain package which will include the original season one four speed gearbox, as opposed to twin motor systems which are believed to be in the majority of the other teams’ technical packages.
