D'Ambrosio praises in-race FanBoost

“I think it is pretty awesome that the fans can watch the race live and then have a direct say in it,” d'Ambrosio told Motorsport.com. “Maybe one of us will have some bad luck or a bad start and the fans can then help us out.

"That doesn’t happen in other sport as far as I know, so it is unique and I think a great progressive idea for racing.

"It was already a great interactive idea and now it has taken another step and I think everyone will enjoy it. The capacity to spice up the racing will be right there for the second half of the races.”

“The other great aspect of the FanBoost now is that you get to choose when and how to use it,” continued the Belgian. “You can use it either with less power over a long distance or more power in a shorter distance. So I think it will be even more important in season two.”

Impressed with Venturi powertrain

D’Ambrosio, who finished fourth in the season one standings, is quietly confident about his and Dragon Racing’s chances at the opening season two race in Beijing this month.

“We were pleased with the way the Donington tests went," he said. "Still, we know it is difficult to do accurate simulations and know where you are because Donington is not the same as Beijing at all, obviously. It is quite easy on the car, while Beijing will be tough in every aspect.”

The former Marussia and Lotus F1 driver will again partner Loic Duval in the Dragon Racing entry, which will run as a Venturi powertrain customer, using the compact VM200 motor.

“The reliability was great for a new powertrain which had not had so much testing,” he said. “There is still work to do but it was a good start and we got a good feel for what we think will be a good solid and, most important of all, an efficient solution.”
