Ho-Pin Tungs enthousiam about racing past the famous Birds Nest stadium, the enormous support from his home crowd and his admiration for what Team China and its technical team Campos Racing managed to achieve in spite of a cascade of bad luck and technical issues were probably the only highlights for him of this weekend.

Despite missing almost all the pre-season testing of Formula E, Ho-Pin was immediately on the pace and third fastest in the second free practice when he crashed his car just before the end of the session. The impact wasn’t big, but there was significant damage to the car. Team China managed to get the car ready the car for qualifying, in which brake balance problems occurred, resulting Ho-Pin Tung spin in the better of his two flying laps.

The unfortunate spin had no real consequences for the Chinese because he had to take a grid penalty, due to a gearbox change. With repairs still being completed he started from the pit-lane but at the green light the car would not start and he had already lost two laps, when the Team China engineers and mechanics got the car moving again.

At the car change, at mid race, the second car refused to engage a gear, resulting in even more time loss. Ho-Pin Tung finished the race, but had to look back at a weekend full of misfortune in his beloved Beijing.

"We had the speed, we showed that in free practise, so I do look forward to my next appearance, which will be in Buenos Aires, January."
