Hydro-Québec will serve as title sponsor for the maiden Montréal ePrix to be held in downtown Montréal on July 29th and 30th, a double-header that will mark the end of the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

The state-owned enterprise will also supply clean fuel to the electric cars that will compete that weekend. The Formula E cars are open wheel machines powered by electric motors and that are capable of speeds up to 220 km/h.

The race will be held in the eastern part of Montréal. The street course will pass in front of the Molson brewery and either side of the Radio-Canada headquarters on René-Lévesque Boulevard.

“The Formula E in Montréal isn’t just a race, it’s a message that we want to send to our citizens and to our friends around the globe,” said Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montréal. “That message is that Montréal isn’t afraid of innovation or change. Montréal is 100% committed to the energy transition, and transportation electrification is the backbone of our strategy. Once again, Montréal will be a trailblazer and will lead the way.”

Éric Martel, President and CEO of Hydro-Québec, declared: “Hydro-Québec is an active participant in transportation electrification and in the fight against climate change, thanks to our expertise and technological innovations. It is only natural that we support this major event. Our clean and renewable energy will supply not only Formula E cars, but also the electric vehicles that are taking to Québec roads in greater and greater numbers.”
