Patrick Carpentier to test Formula E car on Monday
Canadian race car driver Patrick Carpentier will drive a Formula E electric car on Monday on Valencia’s road circuit in Spain.

Patrick Carpentier, a semi-retired open wheel racer who also competed in the NASCAR Cup series in the past, has been invited to take the wheel of the series’ development car next week on Ricardo Tormo circuit, west of the city of Valencia, Spain.
The series has invited a certain number of drivers to test the car in a controlled environment. Carpentier, the official spokesperson of the Hydro-Québec Montréal ePrix, has been given two short series of laps on Monday, October 2nd.
“I spoke to several people during the weekend of the Montréal ePrix, including the CEO of the FIA Formula E Championship, Mr. Agag, FIA President Jean Todt and the mayor of Montréal, Mr. Denis Coderre,” Carpentier told Motorsport.com. “Everyone wants to see me do a proper test in good conditions. Mr. Todt seemed to be very interested in seeing this happen. So I'll do this test and we'll see.”
Could this test lead to talks about a full-time ride in the FIA-sanctioned series?
“I have not set any specific goal for this test,” Carpentier admitted. “I physically trained and spent some time on a simulator to get ready for it. I’m really happy to get back behind the wheel of this car. This test will allow me to get a better understanding of its behaviour and its control systems, such as the regeneration of the battery. I want to learn as much as possible about the performance of the car. After that, we’ll see.”
Carpentier clinched the 1996 Formula Atlantic title, won five CART (IndyCar) races and also raced in the three top classes of NASCAR, as well as in Grand-Am Rolex and FIA Rallycross.
Season 4 of the Formula E Championship, which spans over 2017 and 2018, will begin in the harbour of Hong Kong, December 2nd and 3rd. The Hydro-Québec Montréal ePrix is scheduled for July 28 and 29, 2018 on the streets of downtown Montréal.
