Despite being announced only three days before the race, Salvador Duran won a fan boost in his inaugural Formula-e drive in Punta del Este, Uruguay on Saturday 13th December. Delighted with the global popularity of his new team, Duran was making good progress when a mechanical issue delayed his change of car causing him to lose the progress he had made.
We are already planning how we tackle Buenos Aires where we plan to do much better.

Disappointed with his 16th place, Duran was still upbeat commenting “At the beginning of the race I was trying to feel the changes of the car. I felt confident we were making progress. At the end of the day we got some good data from the cars and I learnt a lot which I can put to good use in Buenos Aires. Most important of all to me, I was able to win a FanBoost! I am delighted to have joined a team that has such fantastic global support.”
It was a challenging day for the team. Antonio Felix Da Costa was unable to complete the race due to a different mechanical issue which emerged early on. Reflecting on the race ADFC explained: “It’s a disappointing way to end the day. I felt something strange from the start as my steering wheel was vibrating. I made contact in the qualifying so I thought it might be causing the vibration I was feeling. I kept driving but whenever I turned right, it got worse and I saw my left front wheel getting loose. We worked so hard for this race and stopping after 6 laps is disappointing. It is part of racing so we will move on and get ready for the next race.”
Summing up the day, Mark Preston, Team Principal said “I’ve been in motorsport long enough to know you have days like this. We had two significant mechanical issues, sadly on different cars. We’ll look at where we can improve our procedures and take the learning to help us move on. The race venue was amazing and the crowds were noisily engaged in what is rapidly becoming a fantastic race event. We are already planning how we tackle Buenos Aires where we plan to do much better.”
