Renault e.dams to run single motor in Formula E

The team, which has increased Renault Sport identification and technical partnership for its sophomore campaign, had been widely reported as using a dual-motor, but Renault's technical programme manager Vincent Gaillardot confirmed to Motorsport.com otherwise.

"Yes (we have one motor) and we have 'some' gears," stated Gaillardot. "Because it is the first season of development you need some risk assessment.

"I am sure that in season three we will see specifications become more common to all the competitors."

The team will also run with a new carbon gearbox this season and continue a long-time collaboration with electrical systems specialist Zytek Automotive.

The British company has been involved, among other aspects of the powertrain, in the design and packaging of the inverter.

"We have a lot of know-how on electrical systems from what we have done in F1, and it was my previous work over a decade to build a complete team to develop electrical technology," said Gaillardot.

"I would specify how we work with Zytek is really in co-development and we are close to each other. It is a very smart collaboration."

Motorsport.com understands that the Renault e.dams team has a multi-gear operational system within its new gearbox and has tested various options but has chosen a two-gear layout for the season which begins at Beijing on 17 October.
