Rumours of Vergne leaving DS Virgin "unsubstantiated"

The French driver, who finished runner-up behind Lucas di Grassi in the Paris ePrix, has been reported in the French media earlier that week as leaving the team this summer.

Vergne has accrued 24 points to teammate Sam Bird’s 82 so far this season.

“We’ve made no decisions on drivers yet, so anything you read [about Vergne's future] is completely unsubstantiated,” Tai told Motorsport.com.

“We chose [Jean-Eric] because he is one of the fastest drivers available and I still believe he is one of the fastest available.

"Both drivers will be re-considered for the rest of the year but no decision has been made yet, but it will be done before the end of the current season.”

Season three car test upcoming

DS Virgin was the first to track-test its season two car in May 2015 and is currently and could hit the track with its season three challenger in the next two weeks.

“The great thing at DS Virgin is that we have a number of test drivers available from a host of other series so we spread our ability to move around and test other cars,” said Tai.

“We have factory test drivers that do work as well, so neither of our race drivers absolutely has to be involved.”

Formula E experience a must

Asked if Citroen’s WTCC champion Jose Maria Lopez would be first in the queue should the team change its season three line-up, Tai said: “No, not at all. We look at anyone and I have to say that I prefer drivers with experience in the series.

"What is obvious is that we have had some fantastic drivers come to the series and really learn the circuits, the cars and how you think about the races. It takes time to learn it all.

"I believe we need to be looking internally within the series should we need to in the future.”
