The Andretti Formula E team took to the 2.498-mile (4.020-km) track at Donington Park in the UK today for the FIA Formula E's first public open test. Driving the No. 27 Spark-Renault SRT-01E was confirmed driver Franck Montagny while Andretti Rallycross's Scott Speed and racing legend Gil de Ferran shared driving duties of the No. 28 machine. The trio will have a chance at seat time again tomorrow.
Franck Montagny, No. 27 Andretti Formula E (Best time: 1:38.062 over 29 laps): "It's quite okay today; it was a normal test, normal checks (within the car). We're quite okay on lap time. Today is not about performance, but about understanding the car, and so far, all is going very well."
Scott Speed, No. 28 Andretti Formula E (Best time: 1:45.909 over six laps): "I just drove six laps, so impressions are very much first impressions... The quietness is quite weird, the power band, as well, for shifting is quite weird because you've always got maximum power all throughout the RPM range. So those two feelings there are by far the difference for going from say stock cars and rally cars to this. What I was kind of thinking would be a bit of a steep learning curve and something different, actually ended up being like riding a bike. I think it's so different that all my natural, old instincts just kicked in and it just feels normal."
Gil de Ferran completed 11 laps with a best time of 1:44.972.
