The team is complete: Daniel Abt stays loyal to Formula E

ABT Sportsline also relies on its dream team in Formula E in the future: Daniel Abt extended his contract for the long-term with the only German Formula E race team just two weeks after championship leader Lucas di Grassi did the same. “I feel completely at home in Formula E and want to grow together with the series,” says Daniel Abt.

The 22-year old German is the youngest driver on the grid in Formula E. He has scored points five times so far, claimed a pole position and finished on the podium for the first time in Miami. With his ADAC Formel Masters championship title, runner-up title in the GP3 series as well as Formula 3 and GP2 experience, Daniel Abt is one of Germany’s aspiring young talents in single-seater racing, and is delighted about his ever-increasing fan base.

“Formula E is going through a fantastic stage of development that includes exciting races and many cool ideas off the track. I think this series has a great future. I’m delighted to still be on board, and want to grow together with Formula E,” says Daniel Abt. “I’m obviously very proud that I can race in the future with the team that carries our family name.” In parallel to his Formula E program, Daniel Abt is also set to contest the World Endurance Championship WEC from the Le Mans race onwards with the private team Rebellion Racing.

“I’m pleased that our two drivers are fully committed to us and that we can look to the future together with our dream team,” says team boss Hans-Jürgen Abt. “Motorsport is a hectic business, which is why we aim for continuity in such important aspects like technology, partners and drivers to create the greatest possible cohesion and calm within the team. It’s great that we have achieved this, and now we can concentrate completely on the end of season run.”

Daniel Abt’s team mate Lucas di Grassi, who also signed a long-term contract before the race in Monaco, is also pleased with the decision: “Daniel has great potential. He’s been doing a great job all season, but unfortunately lady luck hasn’t always been on his side. I’m also looking forward to having him alongside in the future: he’s a great guy who has a fantastic character. We have loads of fun together, but what’s even more important is that we work together perfectly at the track.”

The next Formula E race starts on Saturday (23 May) in Berlin. It is the home race for Daniel Abt and his team.
