This weekend, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship is making its second stop in the UK. The second event of the season was held at Silverstone’s Grand Prix circuit and now, the drivers competing in the planet’s most competitive young-gun series will contest the rounds 10 to 12 at the Indy circuit of Brands Hatch. Italian Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) travels to the shortest track on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship calendar as championship leader and would love to extend his lead.

Marciello, who is promoted by the Ferrari Driver Academy, has fond memories of the former Formula 1 venue that is located not far from London. After all, Marciello won two of the three races held there in 2012. But the Prema driver is not the only one who already was successful at Brands Hatch. William Buller (ThreeBond with T-Sport) also secured a Brands Hatch podium, last year. The Briton who is powered by a ThreeBond Nissan engine is one of a total of eight young talents who race with a British license and therefore are about to contest another home event. The currently best-placed driver of this group is Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam) who holds third position in the championship behind Marciello and Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport). The 19-year-old would love to celebrate his first win of the season on native soil.

But to do so, Lynn has to outpace - inter alia - his competitive compatriots. Harry Tincknell (Carlin) won one of the three FIA Formula 3 European Championship rounds at Silverstone and is keen on tying in with this success. Tom Blomqvist (Eurointernational), who already has got three podiums under his belt, finally wants to make it to the highest step on the podium. And Josh Hill (Fortec Motorsports) as well as Jordan King (Carlin), the two fastest British rookies in the field, also are ready for celebrating major successes. Hill, the son of former Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill, impressed with a steep learning curve and by finishing runner-up at Hockenheim while King delivered in remarkable style several times but was pipped in each of his battles for the podium, nevertheless.

Nonetheless, the short circuit with its challenging first corner - the ’Paddock Hill Bend’ - seems to suit not only the British drivers. US-American Michael Lewis (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), for instance, finished runner-up twice, in 2012 - and Sven Müller (ma-con) celebrated the first podium of his Formula 3 career, on last year’s race weekend at Brands Hatch. By finishing fourth in his home race at Hockenheim, the German started an upward trend while Lewis, who entered the 2013 FIA Formula 3 European Championship season only on the second race weekend at Silverstone is still waiting for the first points on his tally.

At Brands Hatch, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship regulars will be joined by Daniil Kvyat (Carlin). The Russian Red Bull Junior driver who secured a pole and a podium on his first Formula 3 race weekend, at Hockenheim, right away will fully enter the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with immediate effect to contest all the remaining rounds of the 2013 season.

Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam): “I’m living just half an hour from Brands Hatch and really look forward to the coming race weekend. As the track doesn’t offer many overtaking securing a position at the front end of the grid in the qualifying session is crucial. If you do so and succeed in making a good start, you actually just have to focus on making no major mistakes, afterwards. It’s my goal to win one of the races at least as I failed to secure a win in the season to date. And in addition, celebrating my first win of the season in front of my family and many friends would be something very special, for me.”
