Daruvala admits "pressure to deliver" in second F3 season

Force India Formula 1 protege Jehan Daruvala admits he faces “pressure to deliver” in his sophomore European F3 season.

Daruvala enjoyed a highly-successful rookie campaign in one of the world’s most competitive junior championships last year, finishing sixth in the standings with one win and two further podium finishes.

And having taken the decision to stay in the category for another season, Daruvala feels he will have to perform at his very best to build up on last year’s success.

“I am happy with my rookie year in F3 where I finished sixth in the championship and second in the rookie classification behind Lando,” Daruvala told Motorsport.com.

“However this year the pressure will be on as I will be of the more experienced drivers on the grid and will need to deliver.”

“I would like to focus on one race at a time and ensure that I deliver to the best of my ability. If I do that well, I believe that I will be competitive.

“As far as the championship standings go, there are a lot of variables including the development of the cars by teams over the winter. So to make a prediction at this point of time would be difficult.”

With former teammate and last year’s champion Lando Norris graduating to Formula 2, Daruvala is now one of the more experienced drivers in Carlin’s F3 squad.

However, he refuses to assume the role of team leader, saying he expects a close fight between him, Macau GP star Ferdinand Habsburg and Renault Eurocup graduate Sacha Fenestraz.

“There was not much to separate Ferdinand and myself  last year,” he said. “He is a very good driver and had a great Macau GP and GP3 test in Abu Dhabi.

“So it will be very close this year too and I will need to be at the top of my game to beat him.

“As far as assuming the lead role in Carlin, that is a difficult question to answer. Sacha won Formula Renault Eurocup last year in a dominant manner. So it will be very close between Ferdinand, Sacha and myself within the team.”
