Edoardo Piscopo Nurburgring race one notes

Edoardo Piscopo is taking big steps forward in the second half of the 2007 F.3 Euro Series. After the convincing 5th place scored in the Masters race at Zolder, the Red Bull Junior driver cruised to a maiden podium finish at the Nurburgring, in the first race of the 7th seasonal round. Driving his Muecke Motorsports Mercedes-powered Dallara 307, Piscopo started from front row, trailing leader Nico Hulkenberg in the first part of the race; then an excessive tire consumption forced him to lift the throttle, allowing team-mate Sebastian Buemi to catch up.

At lap 23 of 29, Piscopo gave way to Buemi, who's still fighting for title, in order to let the Swiss driver score two more vital points, then kept fourth-placed James Jakes behind until checkered. Race two will have the first four rows determined by the reverse top-8 race 1 finish order. Edoardo will take off from row 3.

"Everything changed starting from the days before Zolder's race. The car is great and fast since the beginning of the weekend and finally, after several races in which I've been 2.5 seconds off my team-mate's pace, I'm back among the leaders... when I was starting to wonder about a possible professional golfing career. Back to the race, I had a decent start from front row, staying amidst Hulkenberg and Buemi, then I kept a good rhythm, confirmed by the second fastest lap of the day.

"At one point, the car started to slide too much due to tire consumption, and Buemi got closer, so I let him pass since he's fighting for the championship. I'm very satisfied, it's a great gift for me and all the mechanics, that worked hard for a long time without being rewarded with immediate results."
