Sweden’s Felix Rosenqvist will make another effort to win the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title, this year. To do so, the 23-year old who already won the Masters of Formula 3 and the Macau Grand Prix joined the Prema Powerteam.
Rosenqvist is one of the most successful drivers in international Formula 3 racing but failed to win the FIA Formula 3 European championship, to date. In 2013 he came close to making it but in the end, he was defeated by Italian Raffaele Marciello and had to settle for finishing runner-up. In 2014 he won both the Macau GP and the GP de Pau but in the FIA European Championship 2014 he had to make do with eighth place.
Now, the blond Swede switched to Prema Powerteam, the dominating force on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship grid in recent years, and regards this move as the start into a new phase in his career: “Since I started racing against them, Prema Powerteam always were the team to beat. And now, after having visited their headquarters and their garage, I also know why they are that dominant. They work on an extremely high level. I already look forward to the first races I’m going to contest with them.”
Just as Rosenqvist, his new Team Principal René Rosin also is thrilled by the new partnership: “That a driver such as Felix opts for racing for us is a big honour for our team. In the past four years, he always was one of our toughest rivals and now, he will represent our colours. Felix experience definitely will be valuable for our team and a help in the battle for the title.” And winning the title, Rosenqvist declares with a lot of confidence, is his clear goal for the 2015 season.
The 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship will be kicked off in mid-April at Silverstone, also venue of the British Formula 1 GP.
