Hockenheim F3: Stroll eases to 13th win of 2016

European F3 champion Lance Stroll continued to dominate proceedings in the series, easily converting pole position into his 13th win of the season in Race 2 of the Hockenheim finale.

Williams F1 hopeful Stroll, who had clinched the F3 title last time out at Imola, won the first race of the weekend earlier on Saturday after contact with teammate Maximilian Gunther.

In Race 2, the Canadian had a much more straightforward run to the chequered flag, leading from start to finish.

Stroll benefitted from a poor start from Carlin's Jake Hughes alongside him to establish a massive lead by Turn 1 already - and he was 1.5s clear after one lap.

Red Bull junior Sergio Sette Camara had surged between Hughes and Motopark teammate Joel Eriksson to go from fourth to second at the start, and managed to more or less match Stroll's pace in the early going.

But he soon was assessed a drive-through penalty for jumping the start and dropped well out of the points as a result.

With Stroll controlling the race out front, Eriksson focused on holding off Callum Ilott behind and eventually brought it home 4.7s behind the winner, with Ilott making up the podium.

Second place was more than enough to ensure that BMW junior Eriksson became the champion in European F3's rookie category with a race to spare.

Mucke's David Beckmann moved up from eighth to fourth in the race, keeping Carlin's series debutant Hughes at bay in the closing minutes.

Ralf Aron was the highest-placed of Stroll's three Prema teammates in sixth, heading George Russell, who had charged through from 16th on the grid.

VAR's Anthoine Hubert, Prema's Gunther and Hitech's Ben Barnicoat made up the top 10.

The sole remaining Prema of Nick Cassidy retired from the race when battling Alexander Sims early on.

Cassidy and Sims made contact on approach to the hairpin and both went into the corner wide, with a second collision leaving the Kiwi with a broken suspension.
