Volkswagen driver Jean Karl Vernay on podium

Wolfsburg (24 October 2009). On podium again: Thanks to a tremendous recovery Volkswagen driver Jean Karl Vernay (France) improved from sixth to third place at the penultimate race of the Formula 3 Euro Series season at the Hockenheimring. The driver of the Signature team mounted the podium for as much as the fourth time this year in the Euro Series. Vernay's team-mate Mika Maki (Finland) also improved by two places at the first of the two races of the junior formula series' season finale. Maki, who finished last year in fourth place overall, had started from position seven and scored four championship points by taking the chequered flag in fifth place. In the overall standings Maki (43 points) and Vernay (41 points) are ranking fifth and seventh. The duo will start to Sunday's race from positions six and four because the starting order of the top four rows is formed by the reverse order of Saturday's results. The positions achieved by the other Volkswagen drivers: Mirko Bortolotti (Carlin Motorsport), last year's Italian Formula 3 Champion, finished 17th and thus ranks directly in front of Johan Jokinen (Denmark/Kolles & Heinz Union). Tiago Geronimi (Brazil/Signature), Jake Rosenzweig (USA/Carlin Motorsport) and Edoardo Mortara (Italy/ Kolles & Heinz Union), runner-up of the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series 2008 with Volkswagen and running at Hockenheim as a guest entrant, collided and retired in the early phase of the race.

ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup Pole position for Ubben - title duel Steinhof/Sandritter still undecided

Wolfsburg (24 October 2009). A rookie at the very front: Jann-Hendrik Ubben grabbed the last pole position of the 2009 ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup. At 2m 04.194s, the 19-year-old newcomer was unbeatable in qualifying for the season finale at the Hockenheimring. With a gap of four hundredths of a second, Elia Erhart followed in second place. The second row of the grid for Sunday's race will be shared by Max Sandritter and Nils Mierschke. Maciek Steinhof continues having the best chances of clinching the Polo Cup title. Although the Pole will only start from tenth place it is unlikely that he will spend a sleepless night, considering his comfortable 37-point lead over Sandritter. The season opener at Hockenheim in May also ended in Steinhof's favour: The leader of the standings won, Max Sandritter only came 22nd. The situation is clear: Sandritter could only clinch the title by winning tomorrow's race if Steinhof did not score a better place then tenth. In the duel for the best rookie honour Kris Heidorn's chances increased with position eight on the grid. His gap in the rookie classification amounts to three points, but the leader of the standings, Maximilian Hacklander, will only start from position 14.
