Racing Steps Foundation protege Ben Barnicoat was victorious in Race 3 on a wet Hungaroring after a crash between leaders Maximilian Gunther and George Russell.

The start of the race, which was given after two laps spent behind the safety car, saw Gunther quickly pull away from the rest, with Russell attacking Sergio Sette Camara for second.

The Brazilian spun at the final turn of the opening lap and Russell quickly made up lost ground on the leader, mainly thanks to a mistake from the German.

The Hitech driver's first move took place on Lap 5, Russell moving on the inside and hitting Gunther, who slid straight into the wall, bringing out the safety car.

Russell damaged his own suspension as well, which allowed Hitech teammate Ben Barnicoat to inherit the lead, followed by Motopark duo Joel Eriksson and Guan Yu Zhou.

The leading duo quickly built a safe lead, taking advantage of Lance Stroll attacking and eventually passing Zhou.

The Canadian managed to close the gap on Eriksson as well but, with not enough time left, they finished second and third in an unchanged order behind Barnicoat.

Further 11.5s behind, Zhou kept Sette Camara and Callum Ilott at bay for fourth.

The Briton lost out to Pedro Piquet on the restart but fought his way past his VAR teammate, who secured his best finish in the series.

Niko Kari was eighth, while Nick Cassidy recovered from a couple of spins to pass Harrison Newey for ninth.
