Hungaroring F3: Eriksson retakes points lead with Race 3 win

Eriksson, who had beaten Callum Ilott by 0.003s, Lando Norris by 0.005s and Guan Yu Zhou by 0.012s to Race 3 pole on second-best times in Saturday qualifying, led every lap en route to his fourth win of the campaign.

While he didn't pull away the same way Ilott had in Race 2 earlier on Sunday, Eriksson's Race 3 win appeared no less of a certainty after he'd held off the Brit at the start.

The Swede was just under a second ahead of Ilott after the opening lap and gradually extended his advantage as the race went on.

He was three seconds ahead at one point and ended up taking the chequered flag 1.8s clear of Ilott.

Ilott's teammate Zhou, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, was again third on the road, but had held on to the position in controversial fashion in a battle with Norris.

The McLaren junior started third and slipped behind Zhou off the line, shadowing the Chinese racer throughout the race distance.

He finally lined up a move on Zhou in the dying minutes of the race, the pair going side by side into the chicane, with Norris on the inside.

However, Zhou ended up straightlining the chicane and emerged ahead of Norris, subsequently keeping him at bay until the chequered flag, with their run-in under investigation by the stewards.

David Beckmann was fifth again, having scored 20 points in his first round since switching to Motopark after drawing a blank in all four of his race weekends with Van Amersfoort.

Beckmann led home erstwhile points leader Maximilian Gunther, Hitech GP's Jake Hughes and top VAR driver Joey Mawson.

Jehan Daruvala and Nikita Mazepin completed the top 10, the former having gotten past the latter at the start.

In the championship standings, Eriksson leads Gunther by five points on 183, with Ilott a further 16 back and Norris trailing his compatriot by seven points, pending the outcome of the stewards' investigation.
