Rosenqvist remains in the race with victory at Zandvoort

Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) concluded Saturday at Zandvoort with victory in the 23rd season round of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. While scoring a lights-to-flag victory, the Swede left his rival Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam) without a chance. Red Bull junior driver Daniil Kvyat (Carlin) was classified third. Points leader, Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam), had little reason to celebrate: the protégé of the Ferrari Driver Academy had a troublesome start and only crossed the finish line in 16th place. In the drivers’ standings, his margin over Rosenqvist was reduced to 34.5 points.

While Felix Rosenqvist had an optimal start and led the field right away, Raffaele Marciello almost stalled and lost many positions. After one lap, the Italian was ranked 19th. Two safety cars didn’t jeopardize Rosenqvist’s lead either. On the opening lap, the two Italians Antonio Giovinazzi (Double R Racing) and Eddie Cheever (Prema Powerteam) collided and caused the first safety car intervention. A spin by Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport) on lap seven led to the second safety car phase.

Out in front, Felix Rosenqvist consistently kept his hunter Alex Lynn at bay. Daniil Kvyat already dropped back at an early stage and was over five second down on race winner Rosenqvist at the finish. Jordan King (Carlin) repeated his result from the first race of the day and was classified fourth from Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motorsports) and Harry Tincknell (Carlin). Sven Müller (Van Amersfoort Racing) finished his second race for his new team in seventh place from Tom Blomqvist (Eurointernational), Mitchell Gilbert (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport), who claimed tenth place.

Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) “My plan was to pull a gap in the early stages already, but unfortunately, the safety car came in. With each of the safety car phases, my tyres degraded, but I was able to bring my margin of one second home. 50 points from two races, that was a good day for me.”

Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam) “My start was good and I was able to overtake Daniil Kvyat. At the beginning, Felix was faster, but later on, I was able to keep up with him. I tried to put him a little bit under pressure for him to make a mistake, but he didn’t do so.”

Daniil Kvyat (Carlin) “I didn't have any new tyres for this race, which didn’t make things easy for me. At the start, I lost one place, but at least, I was able to keep third position. Then, I had to do my utmost, because I just had drivers with fresh tyres around me. Of course, I am happy with my second podium finish of the weekend.”
