Berlin/Monza (rol/ot) The German Team Mücke Motorsport from Berlin succeeded at the season opening weekend of the Formula 3 European Championship in Monza (23rd/24th of March). After his third position on Saturday, Pascal Wehrlein from Worndorf finished at the two races in the rain on Sunday on first position (morning) and second (afternoon) in the Dallara Mercedes. So the 18 year old filled every position on the podium at his farewell performance of the Formula 3. The driver from Worndorf switches to the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) now and will be the youngest driver in that series. Wehrlein started from pole position in Monza at the first two out of altogether 30 season runs of the Formula 3 European Championships and had the fastest lap time in both races as well. Winner of the race on Saturday as well as the early aborted race in the rain on Sunday afternoon has been the Italian Raffaele Marciello, who took the overall lead same time. The last year in the European Championship third placed Felix Rosenqvist from Sweden almost got a podium placing for Mücke Motorsport on Sunday morning on position four. In the afternoon, he finished on 11 and on Saturday he was pushed off track by a competitor when he was on position six. Similar to that, things turned out bad for the two Mücke youngsters Roy Nissany (Israel) and Mitchell Gilbert (Australia/all Dallara Mercedes) on Saturday, as they discarded early after collisions with no fault of their own. Nissany finished on position 17 on Sunday morning and failed at the third race. In that race, Gilbert was evaluated 23rd , after the morning race ended early for him.

Team principal Peter Mücke drew a positive balance for his racing stable after the first out of ten racing weekends of the Formula 3 European Championship. „We showed that we are at the front of the field even under these hard conditions at the hard fought and high class European Championship with altogether 30 drivers. That was a good debut for us at the start of the new season“, the 66 year old Berlin said. „Besides Pascal, our other three drivers showed a great performance and made their way up front from occasional far behind positions. It’s normal that not all our dreams came true under these hard conditions. Furthermore we had a lot of bad luck, which we hopefully used up now for the rest of the season.“

The second season event of the Formula 3 European Championship with the races four to six is scheduled from 12th to 14th of April in Silverstone (England). The races will take place in the main schedule of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). With the WEC that will have their season opening that weekend, it will become a family weekend for Mücke Motorsport. The team consultant Stefan Mücke takes part at the WEC as Aston Martin works driver and aims for a podium placing.
