Jean-Philippe Jodoin, 2015 Formula Tour 1600 champion

From behind the wheel of his Mygale-Honda, Jodoin proved he knew how to manage a race with a consistent run of podium finishes. He also proved he could win with style, grabbing his first victory in Mont-Tremblant, in front of his home crowd, and sealing the championship in Mirabel, on September 19–20.

Like many, Jodoin was introduced to motorsport through a four-stroke kart. Unlike many, he was winning the title in the Coupe du Québec, only two years after his debut, aged 14.

After a brief dab at two-stroke karts in the Rotax categories, Jodoin moved on to cars with a handful of races in Formula 1600, driving for Britain West, the Ontario-based team of David Clubine. As 2015 arrived, he found himself in a brand new Mygale SJ14, and still under the wing of Clubine.

Speaking to Pole Position magazine, Jodoin confessed he went through a tough time setting up the French Mygale single-seater: “It was a lot more challenging to set-up than the Van Diemen I was used to. But it’s a quick, reliable car. So it’s worth the trouble.”

Jodoin fought hard throughout the season, scoring a total of four wins, including the two at ICAR, which helped him seal the title. His efforts paid off, as he ended the year with 976 points, 270 more than runner-up Didier Schraenen.

With the 2016 season fast approaching, Jodoin is looking at different offers from Canada and even from the United States. But, as is often the case in motorsport, the funds he will have available to him will probably decide where he races next year.
