Winner on Points
In his home race in Magny-Cours, Charles Pic was the top points scorer of all the drivers in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. The 17-year old from Montelimar qualified second and third, having missed pole by only 0''005, before an intelligent drive took him into second place in Race 1 in the rain. Since the race winner Arzeno was not entered in the championship, Charles picked up maximum points. On Sunday, he stalled on the grid then fought his way courageously back through the field from 26th at the first corner to 10th in the final classification, which gave him another 2 championship points.
Taking the weekend as a whole, Charles was the best rookie in the class. Thus he made up for a disappointing showing at Donington at the start of the month. Hartley is virtually assured of the title, but the scrap for 2nd place is going to be interesting. Stefano Coletti and Franck Kechele, who are lying respectively 3rd and 2nd, are only one and two points ahead of the SG Formula driver. Charles will be looking to progress next October 20-21 at the circuit in Estoril.
