Last year's Eurocup Megane Trophy champion, Nick Catsburg, has been invited to try out Nissan's FIA GT1 World Championship car, the Nissan GT-R. The Netherlander will spend a few days in Japan as a guest of Renault Sport Technologies and Nismo. The Flying Dutchman is all set to get behind the wheel of the Nissan GT-R at Japan's Motegi circuit on March 1 and 2.
In recognition of his stunning performance in last season's Eurocup Megane Trophy, in which he claimed seven wins in thirteen races, under the auspices of Renault Sport Technologies and Nissan Motorsports International Co. Ltd (Nismo), the Renault-Nissan Alliance has made it possible for Nick Catsburg to take control of the Nissan's FIA GT1 World Championship entry, the GT-R.
The Dutchman, who celebrated his 22nd birthday a few days ago, will join the Nismo team at the Motegi circuit for two days of tyre trials. On March 1 and 2, Catsburg will be given three hours of driving on board the Nissan GT-R's development model, under the watchful eye of the GT1 project's chief engineer.
"It's a real opportunity for a young driver like me to take part in a test sessions with such a team. I think I'm going to learn a lot. I'll have my eyes open in order to learn as much as possible." explained Catsburg.
"It's my first ever visit to Japan, so it will be very interesting from a cultural point of view. Furthermore, it'll be the first time in my career that I have worked with such a team. Naturally, I will give it my all and above all I will be concentrating on following the programme that Nismo has planned for me. But I'll also be doing my best to show off my potential. The chance to take part in testing with a manufacturer like Nissan, who have a number of GT projects on the go, is rare. You need to make the most of it. I'd really like to thank Renault Sport Technologies for making these two test days happen. I've never driven a car as powerful as the Nissan GT-R, so I can't wait to be there!"
