Ryan Tveter to sit out final Formula Renault race due to an injury

Ryan Tveter will be in attendance at the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup season finale this weekend at Jerez, Spain, but unfortunately the young American will not be competing due to an injury suffered in the most recent event Sept. 28 at Paul Ricard, France. 

Tveter, of Oyster Bay, N.Y., is expected to be out of action for four or five weeks while a small hairline fracture in one of his vertebrae heals. Doctors expect a full recovery. 

The injury occurred shortly after the start of the second race at Paul Ricard. Two drivers who were behind Tveter's Game Ready Injury Treatment Systems #16 cut a chicane and rejoined the field in front of his Josef Kaufmann Racing car, which is also sponsored by the Autobau conference center and museum. Those two cars then crashed, forcing Tveter onto a curb as he evaded them. Tveter's car became airborne, and the injury occurred when the car was launched from the curb. The race was red-flagged temporarily while emergency workers extricated Tveter from the car. Tveter was transported to a local hospital but he was released later that evening. 

'Disappointed'

"I'm obviously very disappointed not to be racing at Jerez this weekend due to the small injury that I sustained at Paul Ricard," Tveter said.  "It's a minor thing and I'll be fully recovered in a few weeks, but I'm just not allowed to race in the meantime in order to avoid any complications. 

"It's been a great season and I've learned so much," he continued.  "My pace has been consistently close to the top. I've also achieved some really good results this season with my team, including my first European podium finish and the team's championship in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup. 

"I'm especially sorry for missing Jerez," he added.  "It's a track I really enjoy, and I was P1 in post-season testing there last year. The car is very dialed in and I was looking forward to a good weekend. It's great to be here to support my team and teammates and close out the season with the Josef Kaufmann Racing guys, who have worked so hard all year. I can't thank everyone enough. 

"I look forward to post-season testing and my next race! Exciting plans are in the works for next season."
