UK: Mark Godwin to lead Atech Reid

MARK GODWIN TO JOIN ATECH REID

Experienced Formula Renault race engineer Mark Godwin has joined Atech Reid for the team's assault on the 2011 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship. The former Fortec Team Manager and Chief Engineer will oversee the running of the three-car squad, which recently confirmed rapid Cypriot Tio Ellinas in its line-up.

Former racer and F1 engine builder Godwin started his engineering career in 1993 under the Aztec Race Engineering banner before forming an alliance with Saxon International in 2001. The following year Mark was approached by Fortec to strengthen its Formula Renault campaign, bringing immediate success by engineering Danny Watts to the 2002 title.

Since then Mark has successfully engineered drivers including James Rossiter, Yelmer Buurman, Sam Bird, Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, Duncan Tappy and James Walker, among others.

Now Godwin, from Leicestershire, will work with Team Principals David Hayle and Anthony Reid at Atech Reid's new Cardiff base as they bid to take the title they so narrowly missed last year, with Hungarian Tamas Kiss. The Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship, kicks off at Brands Hatch in April.

"I'm delighted to have joined Atech Reid this year," said Mark. "It will be a breath of fresh air to work with another potential championship winning team in Formula Renault UK and I hope this year will allow Atech Reid to jump the final hurdle, having come so close with Tamas last year. Having witnessed Tio's pace at a recent test in Valencia with the team, I am in no doubt that he will be one of the championship favourites this year. I worked with Graduate Cup winner Alex Lynn last year, so I know exactly what the competition will be like and having helped to develop the 2010 championship-winning package, it can only help Atech Reid to increase their chances of success in 2011".

Team Principal David Hayle was equally delighted to welcome Mark to the team; "Obviously we are really pleased to have Mark onboard, we have tried many times to work together in the past and finally we have achieved it. Mark has worked with a lot of talented drivers, he has a great CV, he's won Championships in the recent past and has a lot of experience which can only be good for us."
