Sondermann and Renault V6 scheduled for testing in Homestead

A winning driver always looks for a faster car. And this is exactly what Gustavo Sondermann will have the chance to experience when he heads to the Homestead Speedway next week. By virtue of his pole position and outright win in the second round of the FR2000 Winter Invitational series, the Brazilian wonder boy has earned a testing session in the Factory Formula Renault V6 this coming Friday 13th as part of the final weekend of the Winter series.

"I am very excited to get the opportunity of testing the V6, says Gustavo in preparation for the final weekend in Miami. I think the Renault ladder system is the best in the world right now and any two-liter driver wants to get his hands on the big 3,5-liter 425 hp V6. It's a 7/8 scale Formula One car in terms of size, design and power and a session in that car is a dream come true for me. I look forward to that session but it will not take my concentration away from the Winter championship."

Third in the standings

His win and pole position in the second round added to his tenth place in the first race put Sondermann in third place in the provisional standings before the three race weekend in Homestead. "Gustavo was holding back in the first round, adds team owner Bob Gelles, because he was nursing a sore thumb. He found out he could drive with the pain in the second race and came out victorious. Next week, we believe he will be in perfect condition and focused on winning the series."

A 30-lap encounter

The testing session will take place on the first Promoter Test day (Friday 13) around the Homestead-Miami full road course and will be a 30-lap affair. "This is the equivalent of a practice session and a full race, argues Gelles. Gustavo will have the chance to run a few laps, come in the pits to have the V6 setup to his preferences before returning to the track. Afterwards, he will simulate a 15-lap sprint under race conditions. We are very happy for Gustavo. His stellar performance in Sebring earned him a spot in this first-ever session with the V6 Renault car in America, thanks to the new FR2000 organization, Race Team Promotions. Our team will also benefit from this session since Gelles will conduct this premiere with the V6."

Winter title for birthday gift ?

The Sao Paulo native will turn 22 next February 17th, the same day of the last round of the five-race championship. Needless to say, the perfect scenario at Gelles would see Gustavo co-celebrate his birthday and the title. "We are preparing the new cars for the competition at Homestead, signals Gelles. Our goals are podium finishes for two drivers: Gustavo (Sondermann) is third in the standings while Marc-Antoine (Camirand) has the talent to clinch a victory anytime. Finally, we want to place Michael (Yager) in a position to receive Rookie honors and become the highest American in the Championship.
