Mondeos in top two spots
While polesitter Hills was slow off the mark, David Auger (Alfa Romeo) got
it right and surged to the lead. The Future Tourer Commodore of Ray
Sidebottom was also quickly away, charging to second ahead of the battling
Mondeos for a couple of laps.
The Mondeos sorted themselves out with Grant Johnson leading team boss Peter Hills before Jamie Miller (running without splitter or rear wing) also relegated the leading Future Tourer.
For many laps Auger was able to cover Johnson's attempts to bet by while back in the pack the BMW of Luke Searle continued towards the front of the field, having started from the back. His religious beliefs making it impossible to qualify.
With five laps to go Johnson was in a position to take the lead, and promptly did so. Hills seized the opportunity to grab second which is how they staved to the flag.
Searle was fourth while fifth-placed Sidebottom was the first of the Future Tourer V8 class. A late slip-up my Miller caused to lose a place to the Mondeo of Sam Dale as the Commodores of Brett Youlden, Mark Papendell, Shanan Sidebottom and Geoff Parker followed. Holdens gained a complete shutout in the Future Tourer order.
