Driver suspended after failing test

A case of doping shocks the sport world in Argentina.

Fabián Yannantuoni failed a drug test at the San Juan race of T.C. 2000 championship, disputed in the month of September.

After that the re-test confirm the positive result the C.D.A (Comisión Deportiva Automovilística) of the A.C.A.(Automovil Club Argentino) announced on Monday night an active suspension of one year for the driver of Fineschi Sport.

Yannantuoni started his activity in T.C. 2000 in October 11th of 1998 in Mar del Plata with Ford Escort where he also competed in 1999. In 2001 he came back with an Honda Civic of the Team ProRacing Honda and in he passed to Fineschi Sport for this season. In his 45 races in T.C. 2000, the driver of 22 years, only has a fourth place as his best result and a fastest lap in the Salta race

He is twelfth in the championship of 2002 lead by Omar Martínez.

Yannantuoni said to the press: ¨This is a very difficult moment for me and my family. This is the fifth anti-doping test for me in T.C. 2000 and they never find me nothing. The week before the race in San Juan I was ill so I took two medicines. My mistake was not to tell this to the Doctor of T.C. 2000¨. Fabián considers the sanction of one year ¨too hard¨. Yannantuoni is considering appeal the penalty in the next days.

The drug founded in Yannantuoni`s test was marijuana.

The president of the C.D.A., Carlos García Remohí asid that ¨in this situation we follow all the steps indicated in the law 24.819 that control the consumption of forbidden substances in sports disciplines. When we knew about the case, the driver was called before the C.D.A. and then the A.C.A. requested for the re-test, always with silence. When we confirmed the case we announced it¨.

Yannantuoni born in the province of Santa Fé in December 17th. of 1979. He will appeal the sanction and try to compite in the last two races of the season.

This is the first case of doping in this sport in Argentina.
