In the future the top Danish series will use the Advan tyres from the WTCC
With effect from this coming season it will be one of the World's largest tyres companies, Yokohama, which will be the sole supplier of tyres for the Danish Touringcar Championship.
Since 2006 Yokohama has delivered racing tyres for the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), which is one of just three official World Championships approved by the international authority, Federation International d'Automobile. Yokohama's present WTCC contract has recently been extended to 2012, and it will be the tyres from the WTCC series that will also be used in the Danish series.
The Danish Touringcar Championship and Yokohama Danmark are proud to have reached an agreement, which will introduce the WTCC tyres to Danish motor racing.
"The Danish driver will now be getting an optimum tyres for their racing cars as well as be getting optimum technical support from one of the World's leading producers of high performance tyres," a proud director of Yokohama Danmark, Kenneth Saust, says. Peter Elgaard from the Danish Touringcar Championship is also satisfied with the new deal.
"That we will start using the tyres from the WTCC series has been an important factor in our future plans for the championship, where we have started to collaborate with the similar series in Sweden, STCC, to stage a number of common races in 2010," Peter Elgaard says. "The STCC series switched to Yokohama tyres for the 2009 season, and with the same type of tyres on both the DTC and STCC cars we can look forward to some exciting common races, where we will be guaranteed a common game field."
For Yokohama the commitment to the DTC series is a natural development. For years the company has supplied tyres for the two other Danish racing classes, 1600 Challenge and Advan Cup, and as the crown jewel the company will now also work with the Danish Touringcar Championship, where top drivers like ex-Grand Prix driver Jan Magnussen, former Formula 3000 star Jason Watt and Le Mans LMP2 class winner Casper Elgaard have given Danish racing fans top entertainment over the years.
Yokohama is the World's seventh largest tyre and rubber producer with headquarters in Japan. The company was formed in 1917 and today has 17,000 employees world-wide. Tyres from the company are works equipped on a number of the World's largest car producers such as Bentley, Mercedes, Audi and most Japanese brands.
