Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup drivers champion, Jim Edwards Jnr collected his second title of the season two weeks ago, coaching Martin Gilchrist to victory in the MG Owners Club Championship.

Gilchrist is Director of Kangaroo International Express, sponsors of Edwards Jnr's championship-winning Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup campaign. In return, Edwards Jnr undertook the responsibility of running Gilchrist's MG in the 2000 MG Owners Club Championship, providing tuition and set-up advice throughout the season.

Although a high speed accident during qualifying for round two at Mallory Park destroyed the car, it was to be the only non-finish of the year. From then on, the Edwards Jnr/ Gilchrist partnership went from strength to strength, aided by participation in several test and track days and on-the-spot driver training provided by the vastly experienced, Edwards Jnr.

Despite never having previously competed in a racing series, Gilchrist secured the Novice Championship at Snetterton earlier this month and went on to finish a highly creditable eleventh overall in the championship proper.

"Both Martin and myself are proud of our achievements this season," commented Edwards Jnr. "We've worked well together all year, first in the Clio Cup and now in the MG Owners Championship.

"Kangaroo International Express will continue to sponsor me next season, while Martin himself will compete in the MG Owners Club Championship, developing his skills in readiness for a Touring Car support race campaign in 2002."
