With Sixth Straight Win, Germany's Henzler Closes in On 2004 Porsche Michelin Supercup Championship; Werner/Menzel/Long/Graf Battle For Second

INDIANAPOLIS, June 20 -- In stark contrast to yesterday's incident-filled event, round #6 of the Porsche Michelin Supercup series was accident-free, but the results were the same - Wolf Henzler, from Nurtingen, Germany drove his Infineon Team Farnbacher Por sche 911 GT3 Cup car to a flag-to-flag victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

As he did yesterday, Henzler jumped into the lead at the first corner pulled quickly away from second-place Christian Menzel.  In the first couple of laps, Menzel and rookie Dirk Werner had a good battle for second, with Werner finally getting by Menzel on
 lap five.  By that time, however, no one had a chance to catch Henzler, who had established a four-second lead.  Henzler won the event by 4.562 second over Infineon teammate Werner.

The next battle that developed was between Menzel and fourth place Patrick Long, the ALMS driver from California who is now a Porsche factory racer. For six laps, Long hounded Menzel, and looked like he might be able to get by him, but Long lost his fifth gear synchro on lap #11, and Menzel was able to hold his position. Then Klaus Graf made a run at fourth place, but he had used up his tires moving up from seventh position, and had no grip left to challenge Long. Former IndyCar driver Allesandro Zampedr i was sixth.

Indianapolis' Mark Taylor, the Panther Racing IRL driver, lost his clutch and did not finish for the second time in two days.

The highest finishing American guest entrant was Kelly Moss Racing entrant Tim Rosengrant, from Cresco, Penn., who finished 16th after moving up seven places. The Racer's Group's Joseph Kunz, from Laguna Beach, Calif., finished 17th, with The Racer's Group Porsche driven by Patrick Flanagan, from Laguna Hills, Calif,m finishing 18th.

All the competitors will be driving evenly matched 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, purpose-built racecars manufactured by the Porsche factory on the same assembly line as Porsche's complete line of sports cars for the consumer.
