Martinsville Speedway will host the second annual Henry County and Martinsville area July 4th Celebration and once again the admission will be free. This year's event will take place on Tuesday, July 4 and will feature two nationally known musical acts, one local band, games for kids, food and drink vendors and a spectacular fireworks celebration. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with games and rides for the kids. The headline act, country music duo Montgomery Gentry, will begin its set at 8:45 p.m. The music will begin at 6:15 p.m. with regional headliner Fatz. The legendary band The Drifters will hit the stage at 7:15 p.m. The performances will be followed by a massive fireworks display. All events and games are free. Last year's event, dubbed "Celebration '75" in honor of the 75th anniversaries of primary sponsors Stanley Furniture and Hooker Furniture, drew an estimated 28,000 people. The major sponsors this year will be Henry County, Martinsville Speedway and Stanley Furniture. "Last year's event was extremely well received and we were thrilled to be a part of it," said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. "We think it's important to build on the success we had last year and make this year's event even better." Prior to last year, Henry County was the host for the annual event at the County Administration Building. This will mark the 20th year that Henry County has sponsored a July 4th celebration. "Henry County is pleased to be able to bring this annual holiday celebration to area citizens again," said County Administrator Sid Clower. "Through the corporate leadership and generosity of Martinsville Speedway and Stanley Furniture, we anticipate this year's event to be a big hit." For more information on the event, contact the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department at 540 634-4640.
