CDR/NOKIA/YAMAHA'S DARRYLL KING WINS COOLUM MOTOCROSS

CDR/Nokia/Yamaha's Darryll King has won the pro open class at round four of the Maxxis Australian Motocross championship at Coolum today.

The reigning champion put on an amazing spectacle for the record crowd coming from last to second in the opening thirty minute moto then passing race leader Daryl Hurley on the final lap of the second race to take the race and round victory.

King said he suffered from the hot conditions in the opening race.

"The heat got to me in the opening race I felt drained and really uncomfortable," King said. "Thankfully the cloud came over in time for the second race.

"I stayed with Hurley throughout the second race and it paid off on the last lap.

"I felt energised and in control - it was great!" King added.

CDR/Nokia/Yamaha's Darryll King is currently second in the championship on 176 points only seven points behind championship leader Daryl Hurley who has 183points. King's younger brother Shayne King is third on 157points.

In the pro lites King's team-mate Troy Carroll collided with the bike of fallen rider Robbie Marshall badly injuring his knee and putting him out of the opening thirty minute race.

After some attention from race medics Carroll lined up for the start of the second race and put in a strong performance to finish sixth despite his injury.

"I felt great in qualifying but then I hit Robbie Marshall and tweaked my knee and was forced out of the first race," Carroll said.

"I came back in the second moto and felt really strong, it was good to redeem some points after a DNF in the first.

KTM's Ryan Marmont won race two and the round ahead of team mate Daniel McCoy and Serco Yamaha's Cameron Taylor.
