FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 6, 2000) - Serious collectors to the "just curious" will be heading to Texas Motor Speedway April 27-30 for the Star-Telegram AutoFest, featuring the Pate Swap Meet. The Pate Swap Meet, one of the three largest automotive swap meets in the country, has been holding its annual meets for nearly 30 years in North Texas. This is the third year it's being held at the speedway as part of AutoFest. The swap meet continues to be recognized internationally for the diversity of automotive products offered by its vendors. With the heavy emphasis on automobiles, it's a natural for auto racing to be part of Star-Telegram AutoFest. The popular Hav-A-Tampa late model series heads to the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, with action beginning each evening at 6:30 p.m. Legends Cars racing will also be part of the two nights of action on the dirt track. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Many who attend AutoFest may actually drive home in a new "classic" vehicle from the Leake Collector Car Auction, held Friday through Sunday on the main concourse. The auction will offer more than 300 special vehicles to bidders beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a car corral where individuals can display their vehicles for sale. The weekend will also spotlight educational activities with the TXU Electric & Gas Solar Model Car Challenge. Regional winners from participating schools around the state will compete for top honors on Saturday, April 29 in the Winston Cup Garage, located in the speedway infield. Star-Telegram AutoFest admission is $6, with children 12 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Specially priced packages are available for those interested in attending the Hav-A-Tampa races and AutoFest. Fans can buy a one- or two-day combo ticket for a reserved seat for the Hav-A-Tampa race(s) that also includes a one- or two-day admission to AutoFest. The packages are $15 for a Friday combo, $25 for a Saturday combo, or $35 for both Friday and Saturday races and AutoFest. Those purchasing Hav-A-Tampa tickets at the gate will receive $5 off by presenting that day's AutoFest ticket. The hours for Star-Telegr am AutoFest are 8:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday with Sunday's final-day hours from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Hav-A-Tampa race or combo tickets may be purchased in advance at the speedway or by calling (817) 215-8500. AutoFest tickets are available at the gate.
