TAMPA, FLA. (SEPTEMBER 10, 2002) - Pete Folse, Jr., a former sprint car racer and the son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Pete Folse, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 9, in his native Tampa after suffering a heart attack on Friday.

TAMPA, FLA. (SEPTEMBER 10, 2002) - Pete Folse, Jr., a former sprint car racer and the son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Pete Folse, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 9, in his native Tampa after suffering a heart attack on Friday. The runner-up in 1990 Pavement Racing Organization (PRO) sprint car points scored two wins that year at Lakeland, and another two wins at Inverness and Hialeah in '91 with the same Florida-based sanctioning body. The younger Folse drove the black number 2 Kortas sprinter, similar to Hector Honore's acclaimed "Black Deuce" which was wheeled by his famous father.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Ansley Folse, Sr., his mother Nancy, and his brother Richard. Survivors include his wife Susanne, stepsons David and Brian Sims, and sisters Paulette and Terry.

Friends may call this Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Blount, Curry and Roel Funeral Home (4730 North Armenia Avenue, Tampa), where the family will be present. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Armenia Chapel. The Folse family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation (P.O. Box 542, Knoxville, Iowa, 50138) in lieu of flowers.
