Formula Vee racer, Tim Barlow, was killed in a racing incident at Sears Point Raceway on Sunday, August 26, 2001. Barlow and other racers were coming up the hill at Turn 3A when an incident just over the crest had occured. A corner worker was waving a yellow flag; however, several cars ended up in a pile-up when one of the Vees became airborn and slammed into Barlow's Lynx.

"Turn 3A is a crest so when you get up to it, you can't see all the way down to Turn 4. But I don't think that is uncommon with tracks that have the type of elevation changes that we have," John Cardinale, Sears Point spokesperson said.

The 55-year-old driver was extricated from the wreckage and airlifted to Sutter-Solano Medical Center in nearby Fairfield, where he was pronounced dead.

Since opening in 1969, there have been 17 race-related deaths at Sears Point Raceway according to Cardinale.

Tim Barlow's son Shane was also competing in the same race. You don't think about it," he said. "You just want to think that everything is going to go right. It's tons of fun."

San Francisco Region member Barlow owned and operated a local printing company and began racing in the SCCA amateur class two years ago. According to a friend of the family, Barlow loved the sport and was a true sportsman.

Barlow's wife, Diane said, "He spent his whole life building up the business, and he finally got time to do something he really loved. It was the most thrilling thing he has ever done."

A memorial and celebration of Tim Barlow's life will be held on Saturday, September 1st at 10 A.M. 615 Pepper Rd. Petaluma Ca

The family has requested that in in lieu of flowers, a donation be made into a trust fund currently being established for Tim's children. Temporarily, donations may be forwarded to Patty Milner, 23490 Pine Canyon Rd. Salinas Ca. 93908

Motorsport.com extends our condolences to the family and friends of Tim Barlow and to the San Francisco Region.
