(Sun.) 6 May 2001 / Race report - Wakefield Park
HOLDEN Commodore driver Gary MacDonald took the lead in the new V8 BRute Muster motor racing series with two wins from three starts today at Wakefield Park, near Goulburn.
The series debut produced some of the most exciting and entertaining racing at the inaugural PROCAR Series meeting, which attracted a record two-day attendance of 10,928 to the venue.
MacDonald, from Sydney, won the first and third eight-lap races and in the reverse-grid second race - won by Wayne Park in a Falcon XR8 - set the lap record on the 2.2 km track at 1 minute 11.66 seconds
Race three was run in the rain and while MacDonald immediately shot from third on the grid to an unassailable lead, chaos reigned behind.
Almost every driver had a turn at the front of the following pack and the order changed frequently as cars slid off the track in the greasy conditions.
Damien White was the most consistently successful Ford driver, scoring third, fourth and second places.
The six-round V8 BRute Muster is for off-the-showroom-floor Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon utilities. Only limited performance and safety modifications are allowed, in the interests of controlling costs and encouraging close racing.
