SOUTH BOSTON, VA. -- South Boston Speedway will host its annual postseason Awards Banquet and Third Annual Virginia Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, December 11 at the World of Sports complex on Highway 58 east in South Boston, VA.
Speedway officials announced this week that the inductees this year into the Virginia Motorsports Hall of Fame include legendary NASCAR car owners the Wood Brothers -- Glen and Leonard -- along with Junie Donlavey.
The Wood Brothers Racing Team was formed in 1953 and is one of the oldest, best-known and most successful teams in NASCAR racing.
The Wood Brothers team has accumulated 96 NASCAR Winston Cup victories, including wins in 53 races that covered 500 miles in length. The team won the coveted triple crown in 1976, swiping victories in the Daytona 500, the World 600 and the Southern 500 during that campaign.
As a car owner in his career, Donlavey has had more than 150 different drivers compete for him, including 65 drivers that ran in the former NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
Donlavey entered cars in the first Southern 500, which was held in 1950 and had three drivers claim the NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the year award. They included Bill Dennis in 1970, Jody Ridley in 1980 and Kenny Schrader in 1985.
South Boston Speedway's five division champions will be among the honorees for the evening. The champions include the following:
* Timothy Peters -- Pepsi Late Model Stock Car Division
* Jonathan Bailey -- Barkhouser Limited Sportsman Division
* Tommy Wooldridge -- Applebee's Pure Stock Division
* Terri Williams -- Grand Stock Division
* Thomas Stinson -- Rolling Thunder Modifieds
The event will begin with a social at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and the awards ceremony will get underway at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the event are priced at $30 for adults. Youth, ages 11 and under, will be admitted for $10. For more information or to order tickets in advance call the speedway at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
