Weikert Livestock, Sprint Car owner died

Robert W. Weikert, 73, of Gettysburg, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home. He was the husband of Winifred Newman Weikert for 51 years.

Born Nov. 29, 1929, in Fairfield, he was the son of the late Howard L. and Sarah Overholtzer Weikert.

He owned and operated Weikert's Livestock Inc. in Fairfield for 50 years. He was a sprint car owner and his Weikert Livestock #29 was a coveted ride by the great names in sprint car racing, including Kenny Weld. Weikert was named to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa.

He was a member of the Gettysburg Eagles, Gettysburg Moose, Fairfield AMVETS and Pennsylvania Farmers Association.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

Surviving also are four sons, Jeffrey L. Weikert of Orrtanna, Robert W. Weikert of Gettysburg, Howard L. Weikert of Fairfield and Todd D. Weikert of Orrtanna; four daughters, P. Jane Weikert and Cindy W. Kuykendall, both of Fairfield, Roberta M. Brown of Orrtanna and Betsy R. Gulden of Gettysburg; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Arlene Myers of Clearwater, Fla., Clara Mae Sanders of Blue Ridge Summit and Margaret May of Youngville, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 13 E. Main St., Fairfield. The Rev. Christopher Frye will officiate.

Burial will be in Flohrs Cemetery, McKnightstown. Friends may call Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, Pa. 17325 or to the Leukemia Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield.
