Action Express Racing finishes 4th and 6th to pace Chevrolet at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. (June 23, 2012) – David Donohue and Terry Borcheller drove to the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP to a fourth-place finish in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series 250 Driven by VISITFLORIDA.com at Road America to lead Team Chevy on Saturday.
The other Action Express Racing entry – the No. 9 Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa and Darren Law – was running fourth and about to take the white flag when it was involved in an incident that left it backward against the inside wall. The No. 9 finished in sixth place in class, two laps off the pace.
And, for much of the event, it appeared that a Corvette DP could end up in Victory Lane for the sixth consecutive race. The No. 10 SunTrust Racing Corvette DP, driven by Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli, led 17 of the 49 laps and was pacing the field with less than 15 minutes remaining when Taylor, under caution, hit the wall. SunTrust Racing finished seventh in class, seven laps off the pace.
“It was a tough day for Chevrolet,” said Jim Lutz, Chevrolet Grand-Am Program Manager. “The saddest part: the No. 10 SunTrust car, leading the race, into the last caution, and it looks like Ricky just made an error, trying to get his tires up to warm, swerving, and he hit something, and caused them not to finish the race when they were in contention for the win.”
The No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP, driven by Antonio Garcia and Richard Westbrook, led nine laps, but finished eighth in class, eight laps down.
The No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Corvette DP, driven by Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney, went out after 12 laps with a suspension failure. The 99 finished 10th in class.
Following seven of 13 Rolex Sports Car Series races on the 2012 schedule, Chevrolet continues to lead the Manufacturers’ standings with Corvette in Daytona Prototype.
The No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R, driven by Robin Liddell and John Edwards, finished in sixth place in Grand Touring (GT). The No. 31 Marsh Racing Corvette, driven by John Heinricy and Eric Curran, was seventh in class. The No. 88 Autohaus Motorsports Camaro GT.R, driven by Jordan Taylor and Paul Edwards, finished ninth in class.
In the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, after winning the pole for the race, Eric Curran and Lawson Aschenbach drove the No. 01 CKS Autosport Camaro GS.R to a fourth place finish. The No. 9 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GS.R driven by Matt Bell and John Edwards finished sixth. Giving Team Chevy three of the top-10 was the No. 6 Mitchum Motorsports Camaro GS.R driven by Tim Bell and Gunter Schaldach, who finished in ninth place.
