Al Carter and Hugh Plumb keep a positive attitude after Daytona SCC and Rolex 24 weekend

Just a few days after the BMW Performance 200, first round of the 2013 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, raced at Daytona International Speedway, Al Carter and Hugh Plumb are keeping a positive attitude despite the disappointing race result and bad luck that they encountered during the race.

After a great start and leading the race, the No. 45 Eagle Tech / B+ Foundation / Jetset Magazine Fall-Line Motorsports BMW finished 26th in the GS class because of an unexpected racing incident in which Al Carter was the unlucky victim.

Al Carter and Hugh Plumb's Speedweek at Daytona started well with the first stop of the 2013 "B+ Fighting Childhood Cancer Tour" at the Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando. The two B+ Foundation Ambassadors toured the new children's hospital and visited with children who were happy and impressed to see real race car drivers by their bedside. Thanks to a new partner, Stinkerz, Carter and Plumb distributed multiple stinky sticker trading card packs that made their visit even more exciting for the kids.

On Wednesday they decided to participate in the Grand-Am Day at Camp Boggy Creek featuring the Frisselle Brother's Mini-Golf Tournament. Camp Boggy Creek was founded by Academy Award-winning actor and accomplished racer Paul Newman and retired U.S. Army General Norman H. Schwarzkopf. The 232-acre camp in Lake County is located just 45 minutes from Daytona International Speedway and helps children ages 7 through 16 to better cope with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

The on-track activity started on Wednesday afternoon and as soon as it was unloaded from the trailer, the No. 45 BMW looked like it would be one of the cars to beat at Daytona this year. Fall-Line Motorsports did a very thorough and meticulous preparation job to get ready for the 2013 season. The team from Buffalo Grove is committed this year to excellence and winning the championship with one of their three BMW M3s (45/46/48).

Al Carter qualified the car in 3rd position on Thursday afternoon, but like the other GS competitors had only two laps of qualifying since the session was interrupted and never restarted because of an accident. After the session Al was pleased with his machine and Carter commented that he could have qualified on the front row.

Al Carter took a great start and led the race after a few laps. Unfortunately, Carter was one of the victims of an early re-start incident following a full course caution flag period. Al was absolutely not at fault in this incident but had to pit to repair and the Fall-Line crew worked fast and efficiently but the No. 45 Eagle B+ Racing car lost three laps in the process. Hugh Plumb took over behind the wheel after the repair and showed some great speed then Carter returned to the car for a final stint and finished the race in 26th place.

Al Carter and Hugh Plumb were also entered in the 51st running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona last weekend. They co-drove the No. 45 Porsche GT3 with their friends from Fall-Line Motorsports Mark Boden, Charles Espenlaub and Charlie Putman. The five drivers had a good time with Magnus Racing, a team that won Daytona last year in the GT class. Their car was really competitive but some racing incidents slowed their progression to a potential top finish. Each driver did a great job despite the incidents and the 45 Porsche scored a top-15 finish. The Rolex 24 effort with Magnus Racing was a great opportunity to promote the 2013 "B+ Foundation Challenge", a fund raising program with the goal of promoting a "text to give" program; TEXT "FIGHT" to 80 000 to make a $10 donation to The B+ Foundation and raise $100,000 by the end of the season.
