Brumos Porsche shakes down new prototype

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (November 4, 2002) -- Brumos Racing and its FABCAR FDSC/03 Porsche-powered Daytona Prototype spent two nights at Daytona International Speedway this weekend shaking down their car in preparation for its first public outing on Wednesday and Thursday of this week during an open Grand American Road Racing test session.

With its bodywork securely in place, the FABCAR-designed Brumos Racing Porsche was rolled out of its trailer and into the garage at Daytona International Speedway last Thursday in preparation for two shakedown runs on Friday and Saturday evenings. The car instantly gathered a crowd of onlookers who were at the Speedway for a HSR vintage race meet as the public got its first glimpse of an actual Daytona Prototype sports car.

Shortly after the garages were closed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, the lights surrounding Daytona's 3.56 mile road course were turned on and the FABCAR prototype was rolled out of the garage for its maiden voyage on the fabled banking.

The initial run was used to familiarize the drivers who will compete in the two Brumos Porsche entries during February's Rolex 24 At Daytona by giving them each five laps in the car. On hand for the session were Mike Borkowski, Chris Bye, David Donahue, J.C. France, Scott Goodyear, Hurley Haywood and Wayne Jackson. Scott Sharp, who will also be competing with the Brumos squad, was unable to attend due to other commitments.

The emphasis on Friday night was to familiarize the crew with the car by checking its various systems every few laps. "We're very happy with what we accomplished," FABCAR's Dave Klym said. "All we've done so far is initial setup and preparation. But we've cleared the way for us to develop the car more fully during next week's test."
