ORLANDO, Fla.—Sarah Cattaneo and Chris Puskar are returning to RSR Motorsports this season to co-drive the No. 198 Cruise America / Thor Motor Coach Honda Civic Si in the ST class of GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
Both drivers have experienced success behind the wheel of an RSR entry in recent years. Puskar made his RSR Motorsports debut at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2011, finishing second with Tom Dyer. The Charlotte, N.C., resident followed up that auspicious start with another podium finish in 2012, when he and team owner Randall Smalley drove to third in the series’ inaugural race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “It’s extremely exciting; Sarah is an excellent driver. Sarah is a very capable driver and extremely talented. I know that she and I will be front running contenders every weekend,” Puskar says.
“Going into this season, I’m looking for a new, fresh start and am looking forward to being teamed up with RSR and Sarah. Thanks to everyone who helped put this together: Joe Cattaneo, Randy Smalley, Owen Trinkler, RSR Motorsports, DBA Rotors, Carbotech Performance Brakes, and my family.”
Cattaneo first raced with RSR Motorsports in 2008. By 2010, she was a force to be reckoned with in the series. She earned her first podium at Miller Motorsports Park, finishing second, and took the pole at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
In 2011, Cattaneo and Owen Trinkler were in contention for the championship all season. They finished third at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Cattaneo got her first series win at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Things were looking good when Cattaneo earned the pole for the final race at Mid-Ohio. A broken shift cable, however, meant they had to contend with fourth in the ST team championship.
Now, Cattaneo is looking forward to being a championship contender again in 2013. The Scottsdale, Ariz., resident says, “With the talent that Chris and I have and with the team behind us, I think we can absolutely shoot for a top five in the championship this year.
Of course, the goal is always to win. If we can keep it clean and finish every race in the top ten, I think at the end of the year we’ll have a shot for top five or even top three in the championship.”
Cattaneo and Puskar will have their first race as co-drivers of the No. 198 Honda during the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season opener at Daytona International Raceway on January 25.
