ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 21, 2012) – It has been quite a week for Ryan Dalziel, who posted the quickest time in Thursday’s practice for the Rolex Sports Car Series 250 driven by VISITFLORIDA.com at Road America.
In the first of two practice sessions on Thursday – and the only session in which he competed – Dalziel logged a best lap at 2:02.536 (118.927 mph) around the 4.048-mile road circuit in the No. 2 Starworks Motorsport Ford/Riley to top the speed charts. Last Sunday, Dalziel, co-driver Enzo Potolicchio and his Starworks Motorsport teammates celebrated a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“We spent the day working on making the car consistent throughout a run,” Dalziel said. “We made a few good changes and there wasn’t much tire drop off, which is what we are concentrating on. If the car is fast, that’s a bonus. Today was just practice. Tomorrow we’ll see what the other guys have.”
Lucas Luhr gave Starworks a sweep of the top two spots in practice with a best lap at 2:02.815 (118.657 mph) in the No. 2 Soloson Ford/Riley. Luhr’s time also came in the first session in the car he shares with co-driver Alex Popow. Antonio Garcia led the second session in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP and his time of 2:02.903 (118.572) was good for third on the day. Garcia co-drives with Richard Westbrook.
Jonathan Bomarito was quickest in the GT class on Thursday with a best lap at 2:12.150 (110.275 mph) in the No. 70 Mazdaspeed/Mazda/ModSpace/Castrol Mazda RX-8. Bomarito and co-driver Sylvain Tremblay are looking for their second victory of the 2012 season after winning at Barber Motorsports Park in March.
Jeff Segal was second in GT at 2:12.531 (109.958 mph) in the No. 69 FXDD Ferrari 458 he shares with Emil Assentato. The times for both Bomarito and Segal were posted in the second session of the day. Dane Cameron led the first session and was third quickest for the day in GT at 2:12.769 (109.761 mph) in the No. 42 TheRaceSite.com Mazda RX-8. Cameron’s co- driver is Wayne Nonnamaker.
