Peyton Sellers to Join Synergy Racing in Rolex 24 At Daytona

ALTON, Va. (January 27, 2005) -- Peyton Sellers (Danville, Va.) will join Synergy Racing to compete in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, which will kick-off 2005 SpeedWeeks at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 5-6. Sellers will partner with co-drivers Steve Marshall (Blacksburg, Va.) and Archie Urciuoli (Nokomis, Fla.) in the No. 86 BMW-powered Picchio DP2 Daytona Prototype.

"It's really an honor to be racing for Synergy Racing," said Sellers. "I've known (team owners) Steve and Danny Marshall and Cole Scrogham for a while, and I'm glad for this opportunity to join them in the Rolex 24. It's great that am able to race for a local team.

"Every little kid dreams of racing at Daytona at some point, so its pretty neat that I'm able to when I'm only 21 years old," Sellers continued. "While I'm still fairly new to road racing, its something I really enjoy, and I can't wait for the opportunity to compete in the Rolex 24."

Twenty-one-year-old Sellers has made a name for himself on the local racing circuits in recent years, competing at South Boston Speedway and Orange County Speedway. At age 15, he took Rookie of the Year honors at South Boston in the Super Stock Division. In 2000, he moved to Orange County Speedway where he competed in the Limited Sportsman Division and again earned Rookie of the Year honors with three poles and six wins. Seller's success continued in 2001 when he won 11 feature races en route to the Orange County Limited Sportsman Track Championship.

As he continued up the ranks, Sellers moved into the highly competitive Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway for the 2002 and once again walked away with Rookie of the Year honors in the division. For the 2003 season, Sellers decided not to pursue the points chase and traveled to many different tracks for the sake of gaining experience and picked up several pole positions and top-five finishes along the way.

Last season, Sellers collected his first win in the late model stock division and made his debut in the ARCA series. He also picked up podium finishes in SCCA competitions at Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta.

Sellers began his racing career at age seven competing in go-karts. By age 13, he was racing in open-wheel mini sprints and moved into stock car racing on asphalt and attended Mike Loeshers' Finish Line Racing School at Martinsville Speedway at 15.

Sellers is a large supporter of efforts to encourage children to stay in school. He participates in programs such as Race to GED and often speaks at area schools. Sellers is a graduate of Danville Community College and currently attends Averett University.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona is the most prestigious sports car race in North America, drawing top-name drivers from around the world and every racing discipline, including the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, the IRL IndyCar Series and Formula One.

SPEED Channel will broadcast more than 14 hours of the historic 24-hour race live from Daytona, with coverage kicking off at noon on Saturday, Feb. 5 and continuing through the first seven hours of the race. After a one-hour break, the live broadcast will resume at 8 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. SPEED will return to the action at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, running through the checkered flag and victory lane celebration.
