G&W Motorsports changes name to Synergy Racing

Introducing Synergy Racing: New Name, New Look, New Approach to Motorsports

ALTON, Va. (December 9, 2004) -- G&W Motorsports owner Cole Scrogham announced a major transformation to his race team today. Scrogham explained the team's redevelopment of its approach to motorsports, which included the introduction of a new team name - Synergy Racing - and a new lightning bolt logo.

"Earlier this year, we recognized that Motorsports was at a crossroads in many areas, and we had to make some changes to the way we do business to succeed in the future," Scrogham said. "We began an excruciating study of who we were and what we wanted to become, which included market research, an analysis of what we do well and not so well, and ultimately a complete change of structure, direction and look to our team, which we are introducing today."

The noted changes to the team name and logo reflect the revolution of team's entire structure into a customer-based championship racing business, which concentrates on the needs of the customer rather than the desires of the team.

"Our objective is now changing from one that focused on selecting the best options for our plans for the future to an objective that now focuses on our partners and what they want for the future." Scrogham explained. "We are not going to do things the way they have been done in racing up to this point, where we take a square peg and try to fit it into a round hole. Synergy Racing is a customer-based championship racing business, and the look and feel of this organization from the top down will reflect that."

Several key changes have already been made to the team, including the addition of Ken Grammer in October as the President of Synergy Racing. Grammer was brought in to coordinate team functions into a central management structure, allowing Scrogham and Team Manager Price Cobb to focus on what they do best for the team while Grammer oversees the operation as a whole.

However, Scrogham notes the complete evolution into Synergy Racing and the team's reformation will take some time. "This transition will not happen overnight," he said. "This is not just a new name and new logo, but a complete strategy to usher in the new direction we are seeing with the expansion of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series, Daytona Prototypes and Motorsports in general. Synergy Racing will be at the forefront of this new era. We will certainly stumble and fall at times, but we will get back up and pursue excellence at the highest level of motorsports."

G&W Motorsports History
G&W Sales and Service was founded by Gary and Weldon Scrogham in 1971. The partnership lasted only a few weeks, but the G&W name carried on. The business developed out of a love for Porsche that Weldon brought back with him after a tour in Germany in the late 1950s. From Weldon's first Porsche in 1962, the business has sold, serviced, restored or raced nearly every Porsche model in history. In 1984, G&W Motorwerkes opened a new, permanent facility that has seen four Manhattan Concours winners and numerous racing wins.

After years of hands-on education under the watchful eye of his father at G&W Motorwerkes, Cole Scrogham formed G&W Motorsports in 1996 to cater specifically to Porsche racing. Focused on the philosophy of winning races in a professional and ethical manner, G&W Motorsports, based outside of Danville, Va., at Virginia International Raceway, went on to become the most successful team in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series, capturing the inaugural GT championship in 2000, both the GT and GTS championships in 2001 and the SRP II championship in 2003. G&W Motorsports is the only team to compete in every Rolex Series race since the series' inception, accumulating 15 class wins and more than 50 podium finishes in class.

Believing in Grand American's Daytona Prototype concept and formula, G&W Motorsports was one of only five teams to field a Daytona Prototype in the class debut at the 2003 Rolex 24 At Daytona. The team added a second Daytona Prototype to its stable for the 2004 season and will campaign entries in the Rolex Series Daytona Prototype and GT classes, as well as the Grand-Am Cup Series Grand Sport class in 2005.
