LEXINGTON, Ohio (September 17, 2011) – With today’s victory in the Grand-Am Road Racing (Grand-Am) Rolex Sports Car Series (Rolex) Grand Touring (GT) class in the EMCO Gear Classic by Stevenson Motorsports teammates Robin Liddell and Ronnie Bremer, Chevrolet captured its first-ever GT Class Manufacturers’ Championship for Chevrolet.

"What a tremendous day in Grand-Am Road Racing at Mid Ohio for Team Chevy in the Rolex Series GT class,” said Mark Kent, Director, GM Racing. “Congratulations to Robin Liddell and Ronnie Bremer on today’s win that gave the Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R team its third GT win of the season as well as securing the GT Manufacturers' Championship for Chevrolet.”

Starting from the pole, Liddell and Bremer piloted the No. 57 Camaro GT.R to the team’s third victory of the season leading a combined 34 of the 97-lap season finale at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.

“As a GM factory driver, winning the manufacturers’ championship for Chevrolet is the most important thing from my perspective today,” said Liddell. “Obviously we were out of the team and driver championships but for us, getting the manufacturers’ championship for Chevrolet was the most important thing for us. I want to thank everyone at GM Racing and Chevrolet not just for the support they have given me, but also to Stevenson Motorsports and the other Chevy teams out here; it has obviously been a big help and given us the momentum to bring this manufacturers’ title home for them.

“It was a very tight battle today and I didn’t really feel like I had the car under me. The team made a small change during the pit stop and the car was better for the last stint.”

Leading the standings coming into today’s race, Autohaus Motorsports drivers Bill Lester and Jordan Taylor fought hard for the GT team/driver championship behind the wheel of the No. 88 Camaro GT.R, but had to settle for the eighth finishing position and second in the final standings.

In Rolex Series Daytona Prototype (DP), Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty brought the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet Riley to the checkered flag on the podium in third position.

"All of our Chevrolet teams have put forth a tremendous effort this season,” Kent continued. “In DP, we battled to the last corner of the last lap for the engine manufacturers' championship as well. Although we tied in the total points scored and total wins, we had to settle for second because of the tie-breaker rule. I couldn’t be more proud of the effort.

"As the season went on, we have continued to improve the performance of our Chevrolet powered cars in DP as well as the Camaro race cars in both Rolex GT and Continental Tire GS classes. We are looking forward to the 2012 season and contending for the title in all three classes in which we compete. Congratulations again to all the teams and drivers that proudly represented Chevrolet in Grand-Am."

Early today, Joey Atterbury and Robert Stout brought the No. 62 Mitchum Motorsports Camaro GS.R to the seventh place finishing position in the EMCO Gears Classic at Mid Ohio for the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class.

The 2012 Grand-Am season will kick-off January 27-29 at Daytona International Speedway for the 50th running of the Rolex 24 Hour.
