Salt Lake City – Miller Racing, based in Salt Lake City, will be racing at Kansas Speedway this Saturday, August 17, in Round 9 of the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Series.

The No. 158 Miller Racing Ford Mustang Boss 302R, co-driven by team principal Roger Miller and Ian James, is sponsored by Total Care Auto in addition to Miller Motorsports Park and the Ford Racing School. The car is prepared and crewed by Dempsey Racing.

Kansas Speedway is a new venue for the series, and the circuit is a 2.37-mile speedway road course, or “roval,” incorporating most of the 1.5-mile speedway oval with a infield road-course section.

The fact that it is a new track provides a level playing field for the teams since none of them have raced there before and have no previous data to work with.

The team that can find the proper set-up the fastest will have the best advantage.

Miller Racing heads into Kansas on somewhat of a roll, having scored sixth- and 10th-place finishes in its last two outings after four disappointing races. The team hopes to continue their positive trend this weekend, but understands that it won’t be easy.

“It’s always interesting going to new tracks,” said Miller. “Historically, visiting a track at least once before racing there has proven to be very beneficial. Unfortunately, we did not make it to Kansas Speedway. It looks like a fairly straightforward track, much like Daytona or Indy, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. Between working on the set-up of the car and learning the track, we’ll have our hands full.”

“Kansas is a new track to everyone,” said James, “so who knows what cars it will favor? From what I have seen, it is a fast ‘roval’ configuration with a very fast run through the oval section. The Total Auto Care Boss 302R is raring to go, and I feel Roger and myself are on top of our game, so I am optimistically looking forward to this new event on the calendar.”

After a promoter’s test day on Thursday, the event officially gets underway on Friday, with two 45-minute practice sessions preceding a 15-minute qualifying session scheduled for 6:35 pm MDT. Race day will be Saturday, with a 30-minute final practice session in the morning before the 2.5-hour race takes the green flag at 2:00 p.m MDT.

The race from Kansas Speedway will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis at 1:00 p.m. MDT on Sunday, August 25, on Fox Sports 1 (formerly SPEED).
