DAYTONA BEACH – Napleton Racing is off and running in this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona, the first race for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series GX class and first for the new No. 16 Napleton Racing Porsche Cayman S. The team has led every lap from the start through hour four of the day-long race.
From pole, Shane Lewis led through his opening run in the car. Lewis ran a double stint before handing the Napleton Cayman off to David Donohue with Dr. Jim Norman continuing to hold the lead as hour four was complete. Nelson Canache is next up in the driver order.

“Our first run was good, as it was a very conservative effort in the beginning,” Lewis said. “It’s not easy when you go slower than you would like to, but you are going race pace. Then we had an issue, where we lost all radio communications. I was literally guessing everything when it came to what to do pit stop-wise. I had to do everything in my head thinking of, ‘OK, we have this much time, I’ve been out this long, here’s when we need to pit!’”
The fastest lap set for the No. 16 thus far is a 1:56.319, set by Donohue on lap 80 of the race. The team led by more than one lap over a similar Porsche Cayman in class.
Past the four-hour mark, the Rolex 24 is now running in darkness for more than 11 hours until sunrise on Sunday morning.
