NORTH CANTON, OH -- The Mid-Ohio Motorola Cup event was exactly 10 minutes to long -- Why, do you ask? This is because at the 2 hour and 50 minute mark, the US Filter® - Planet Earth Motorsports® team was in the very unique position of being able to win both the Super Grand Sports and the C2K Class in the same race. This is a record that no team in Motorola Cup has ever accomplished.
With 10 minutes to go, The #41 Comptech -- Acura Integra GS-R was sitting comfortably in the lead of the C2K class. Meanwhile the #43 GOJO® - Chevrolet Corvette was sitting in 2nd place, closing in on the lead Super Grand Sports racer. As luck would have it, first the #41 Comptech -- Acura of Wayne and Will Nonnamaker was struck by a backmarker at the end of the back straightaway at turn 6. Then, an electronical gremlin stopped Bill Pate in #43 dead on the track. Although Bill Pate and Joe Nonnamaker did not finish, Will brought the Comptech -- Acura home in third place.
"It would have been great to have finished 1st in both classes in front of our hometown crowd, but the weekend was not a total waste. Wayne was on the pole position for the C2K class and Bill set the 3rd fastest race lap. Our mission is to continue forward, making progress at Road America." -- Joe Nonnamaker
At this weekend's Grand-Am event, the US Filter - Planet Earth Motorsports team will again be fielding the #43 GOJO -- Corvette and the #41 & #42 Comptech -- Acuras in the Motorola Cup. Dick Starita and John Wymore will again drive #42.
The Mission of Planet Earth Motorsports is to utilize the great race events such as the Road America / Grand -- Am event to reach out and educate the public about simple, everyday environmental steps to make the world a better place. One way this is accomplished is through the Enviro Expo, which will be on display during the weekend. Inside the race fan will have the chance to learn more through videos and displays, sample the GOJO Hand Care Station, and pick up pamphlets and flyers being distributed. At each event, 10% of #41's prize winnings are donated to a local environmental organization. Wisconsin Association of Lakes will be the beneficiaries of this weekends proceeds."
